Biography Bonanza

You can teach a lot of language arts skills by doing a biography study.

Students love writing about people when they BECOME the person they're writing about.  For years, I've taught using a method called Scottish Storyline where students are the characters in our classroom "story."  I use this method a lot because it's FUN, FUN, FUN for me and I can't say enough about how eager students are to engage in anything related to our storyline.   :)  I'm a big believer that when you give students the control of their learning, you get more from them in return. This project allows students the freedom to soar.

I absolutely LOVE teaching the biography unit!  Students are so self-motivated that it's fun for me to take the role of supporter.

I've shared all of my biography materials in my TpT store.  My unit has all of the student organizers, forms, website links (and structure for students to do their research and report project and culminating event. In a nutshell, students read a biography novel (at their reading level) and research the person using internet sites.  I've found the best websites appropriate for students and made webpages for 75 famous people.  The link to this page is included in my set.  As a culmination event, students dress up as the person and our museum of famous people comes to life!

Happy teaching!  :)
